In this course we will cover business and economic issues that have an impact on our world. We will also be deloping the skills required for future studies.
This class will focus not so much on "word-for-word translation" of business-related topical texts from English into German as on "mediation" of those text. We will study British and American newspaper articles in detail and above all practice summarizing them in German. The texts will be related to issues discussed in International Business and Society 1 where possible.
Translation of general/business texts into English.
General introduction exercise(s) on some of the basic features of translating, and advice on what to be aware of. Selected texts of a general (social, political, cultural etc.) nature for translation.
Extra gap sentence exercises to practice essential business letter-writing vocabulary. Also old BK examination papers. Sample solutions (complete letters with some alternatives).
This course will entail developing language skills that are of use for your future careers.
